Community consultation is an important part of establishing the National Radioactive Waste Facility (NRWMF). Two independent consultative committees advise the department on their respective communities, specifically:
Neither committee is a decision-making body and each only performs an advisory role between the community and the government. Community members who make up the committees meet throughout the site selection process to discuss key aspects of the project.
The committees will remain active for the duration of the site selection process. It will be the Minister’s discretion if the committees remain in place after this decision.
