David Williamson began his career in the Australian Public Service as a graduate in 2000. Since 2004 he has held senior executive roles across 4 departments.
David started working in our department as a Deputy Secretary in August 2019, most recently with responsibility for the Science and Commercialisation, Manufacturing and Industry Growth divisions.
Before this he was a Deputy Secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, leading the team supporting the Independent (‘Thodey’) Review of the Australian Public Service. Previous roles in PM&C including leading the taskforce that prepared the Australian Government’s White Paper on Developing Northern Australia, and the Industry, Infrastructure and Environment Division.
As a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, his group included agricultural policy, farm support and sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry divisions. In the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development he led the Policy and Research Division, which included the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics.
David grew up in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and has a Bachelor of Arts (Combined Honours) from the University of Melbourne.
