About the National Measurement Institute

The CEO and Chief Metrologist, Dr Bruce Warrington, leads a team of more than 350 National Measurement Institute (NMI) employees across Australia who fulfil NMI’s roles and responsibilities as Australia’s peak body for measurement.
The Chief Metrologist is appointed by the Secretary of the department and has functions outlined in the National Measurement Act 1960 and subsidiary legislation.

Our work
We are responsible for developing and maintaining Australia’s measurement system, and delivering measurement products and client services to a wide cross-section of stakeholders including government, industry, and science and technology partners.
NMI’s range of activities serving Australian stakeholders cover:

- testing and analysis services
