We consulted with the public, governments and stakeholders to decide the final release areas. All areas were nominated by industry.

There are 10 areas available for offshore oil and gas exploration.
They are offshore of:
- Northern Territory
- Western Australia
- Territory of the Ashmore and Cartier Islands
- Victoria.
Bidding will close at 4.00 pm on Thursday 2 March 2023.
