About us

The National AI Centre (NAIC) is the Australian Government’s lead body supporting industry to unlock the economic benefits of AI.

The NAIC is a part of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, established in 2021.

We work with businesses, not for profits and industry to support practical AI adoption. We focus on helping organisations and the people in them understand where AI can add value and what to consider before using it.

What we do

We develop and share clear, practical guidance to support informed decisions about AI.

This work helps organisations to:

  • understand where AI could support their work
  • improve understanding of AI, including benefits and risks
  • support people and teams as AI is introduced into the organisation
  • apply responsible AI practices in real world settings
  • learn from examples of how Australian organisations are using AI
  • connect with local AI expertise, capabilities and solutions
  • access support through AI Adopt Centres, which help small businesses get started with AI.

Our work supports the delivery of the National AI Plan, which sets out actions to:

  • support safe and responsible AI use
  • help Australian organisations capture the benefits of AI.
