Before you start

To set up access to the NMI Services portal, you must use:

  • myID – This is the Australian Government’s Digital ID app. It proves your identity when logging into participating online services for work or personal use.
  • Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) – Businesses use this tool to authorise you to act on their behalf to access online services.

Set up your myID

If you haven’t set up your myID, download the app from an official app store to set up your Digital ID.

You’ll need a standard identity strength to access the portal.

Link your myID

You need to link your myID to the Australian business number (ABN) in RAM to access the NMI Services portal.

How you do this depends on whether you’re a:

Principal authority

If you’re the principal authority, you must:

  1. set up myID, if you haven’t already
  2. log into RAM and link your myID to the business’ ABN

Once linked, you can access the portal and create authorisations for other users.

You can also appoint an authorised administrator to create and manage authorisations on behalf of the business.

The principal authority is often a company director, company secretary or senior official who holds a corporate or finance role.

Authorised user or administrator

If you’re an individual wanting access to the NMI Services portal, the principal authority needs to link your myID to the business by creating an authorisation in RAM.

To become an authorised user (or administrator), you must:

  1. provide the principal authority or authorised administrator with your:
    • full name, as it appears on your myID
    • preferred email address to receive an authorisation code – this can be a personal or work email
  2. login to your email within 7 days and use the code you received to accept the authorisation.

Once authorised, you can use the myID app to access the portal.

Manage authorisations

If you’re the principal authority or authorised administrator, you can manage authorisations using RAM.

This includes disconnecting or de-authorising staff if they change jobs or leave the business. Once an individual has been de-authorised, they will be unable to access the NMI Services portal.

Using myID helps to:

  • ensure only authorised individuals can access the portal and act on behalf of the businesses to request and receive services
  • protect both personal information and business data, minimising the risk of cyber threats and privacy breaches.

No, only staff who need to access the NMI Services portal need a myID, including the principal authority.

Your myID is your personal digital identity, so it’s important you use an email address that only you can access. You should not use your work email address.
