The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited reference material producer. We produce and sell matrix reference materials for organic and elemental analysis. Matrix reference materials are used for method validation and quality control.

Our reference materials have certified values for selected elements or organic compounds. These are determined through our high accuracy measurement techniques and assessments, including:

  • method precision
  • method trueness
  • homogeneity and stability
  • measurement uncertainty, per the guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement (ISO-GUM)

We also produce aqueous ethanol solutions as Australian certified reference materials, in accordance with regulation 48 of the National Measurement Regulations 1999. These legally traceable standards are used for evidential breath alcohol analyser calibrations.

Our certified reference materials:

  • come with certificate of analysis and safety data sheets
  • are prepared in accordance with ISO 17034 General requirements for the competence of reference material producers

Proficiency testing materials

Test materials produced for our proficiency testing programs may often be available for sale. These materials come with indicative values determined by participants’ results or in-house reference methods. See our proficiency testing services.
