National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator: Operational reviews

The National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA) is responsible for day-to-day administration of petroleum and greenhouse gas titles in Commonwealth waters in Australia. NOPTA:

  • provides information, assessments and advice to the Joint Authorities and Minister
  • facilitates title administration and approvals
  • manages collection, storage and release of data
  • keeps registers of petroleum and greenhouse gas storage titles

Review of operations

NOPTA is a statutory position within the department. It works on a full cost recovery basis, funded by the petroleum industry. Established in January 2012, NOPTA operates under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006. The Act requires reviews of NOPTA every 5 years.
