An analysis of the National Measurement Institute’s client base

The National Measurement Institute (NMI) provides high accuracy measurement services to industry and regulators. This research paper analyses the NMI’s client base.

Key findings include:

  • NMI clients are highly innovative-active and more likely to be involved in research and development and to file patent and trade mark applications
  • one quarter of NMI client firms are in industry growth sectors, in contrast to just 9% of all employing Australian firms
  • growth sectors include food and agribusiness, medical technologies and pharmaceuticals, mining equipment, technology and services, and oil, gas and energy resources
  • there is scope for more detailed analysis of NMI clients and their performance using the Business Longitudinal Analysis Data Environment (BLADE)
