This research is a study of the Commercialisation Australia (CA) program, which ran from 2009 until 2014. The program supported companies and innovators during the commercialisation phase of developing products and ideas.

The study found:

  • most firms which participated in the CA program are small and young
  • CA participants had larger increases in turnover growth than firms in a comparison group
  • CA participants had higher research and development (R&D) and capital expenditure than similar firms
  • overall, firms in the CA program increased exporting activity and filed for more patent and trademarks
