The Rolling Stock Capability Index lists the businesses across Australia involved in the rolling stock (heavy and light rail) sector.

The index will help increase visibility of the national rolling stock manufacturing supply chain. Stakeholders can use index data to find areas in the market for growth and collaboration. This will help to create a more cost-effective and competitive sector.

The index has an interactive map with graphs and a searchable data table. You can customise your search and filter in several ways, including by product, location and service type.

The index includes data on 32 components. Users can find information about:

  • company details, like name, size, location and contact details
  • types of products, like bogies and couplers, glass or braking systems.

The Industry Capability Network collated this data on behalf of the Office of National Rail Industry Coordination (ONRIC). ONRIC will continue to update and refine the index to include new or changed capabilities.

Updates to the National Rolling Stock Procurement Pipeline

We have also updated the National Rolling Stock Procurement Pipeline. This major update follows review and user feedback to better understand what content is most helpful.

The pipeline update includes:

  • new procurement data
  • new rolling stock projection data
  • clearer data visuals
  • more context about the data.

Both the index and pipeline are initiatives under the National Rail Procurement and Manufacturing Strategy. ONRIC will continue to update and refine these products.
