Six research projects will share $5.2 million in grants to support international science collaboration under Round 14 of the Australia–India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF).

The projects address priority areas agreed to by the Australian and Indian governments, creating stronger links between the 2 countries.

Projects fall within 6 priority areas:

  • quantum technologies
  • groundwater resources management
  • downstream processing, recycling and tailings reclamation of critical minerals
  • infection prevention and control
  • digital health and telemedicine
  • biomaterials (including bioplastics).

Funding will go toward:

  • low cost, portable and solar-powered optical sensing technology to monitor groundwater contaminants
  • research into the structural dynamics of SARS-CoV-2
  • a versatile protein mimicry platform to deliver bioadhesives for mending soft tissues
  • advanced recovery of battery materials and rare earth elements from ores and wastes
  • digital technologies at primary care centres to prevent blindness
  • quantum-enhanced atomic gravimetry to improve sensing capabilities.

The Indian Government will support the Indian partners in each project.
