We are conducting a review of the management of mental health in the Australian Public Service (APS) on behalf of the Secretaries Equality and Diversity Council.
Research shows that mental health conditions are the third biggest health issue in Australia after heart disease and cancer. That's why managing mental health in the workplace is such an important issue for the APS.
Using the latest research, innovative examples and case studies, the review hopes to identify some of the major barriers affecting the management of mental health in the APS.
It is particularly interested in improving managers’ confidence and capability when employing and managing team members with mental health conditions.
The more employees we hear from, the greater chance there is to make a positive impact in improving mental health and wellbeing and changing the culture of the APS. The survey is voluntary and open to all levels of staff across the APS.

This confidential, anonymous survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your responses and feedback will be kept de-identified and data will be aggregated for inclusion in the final report.

You can also nominate to represent your Agency at a collaborative workshop held in early 2019. These workshop will explore how managers can improve their confidence and capabilities to support team members with mental health conditions. The sessions will help us develop a best practice approach to mental health in the APS.
