We will announce the recipients of the 2025 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science on 3 November.

The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science will celebrate demonstrated achievements in scientific research, research-based innovation, the practice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems and excellence in science teaching.

This is the first time the Prime Minister’s Prize for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledge Systems is being awarded. This new prize recognises the practice and preservation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems taking place across Australia.

The recipient of the new prize will receive national recognition of their work, a medallion and $250,000 in prize money. Through their achievement, the recipient will become an important role model who will inspire other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.

Nomination guidelines are now available for the 2026 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science. 

Prize recipients receive a medallion, prize money of $50,000 or $250,000, national recognition and exposure to new opportunities and networks.

We encourage nominations of candidates from diverse backgrounds. This includes personal and cultural backgrounds, disciplines, career stages and geographic regions.

Nominations will open on 22 October and close on 18 December 2025.
