NOPTA and NOPSEMA are Australia’s offshore regulators.
NOPTA is responsible for day-to-day administration of oil, gas and greenhouse gas titles in Commonwealth waters. NOPSEMA regulates oil, gas and greenhouse gas activities in Commonwealth waters.
The Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 requires a review of both bodies every 5 years. The reviews are separate and will help the government consider if the offshore regulators can manage current and emerging challenges.
Jane Urquhart PSM will lead the review of the National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA). Mrs Urquhart served as Deputy Secretary with our department before retiring.
Peter Wilkinson will lead the review of the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA). Mr Wilkinson helped establish the National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority, an early version of NOPSEMA.
The reviews will engage directly with targeted stakeholders. For further information, including how to give feedback, please see the review pages.
