New grants are available to fund research into low emissions livestock feed technologies.
The Australian Government is inviting researchers to measure the benefits of new feeds on livestock. They will work with producers to verify claims of reduced emissions and increased productivity.
Low emissions feed technologies include forage legumes and feed supplements.
The Methane Emissions Reduction in Livestock (MERiL) program offers grants from $500,000 to $1.5 million. The program aims to incentivise farmers to reduce their emissions. Livestock accounts for around 10 per cent of Australia’s annual greenhouse gas emissions.
Applications for the MERiL grants are open until 6 July 2021. Find out how to apply for a MERiL grant at business.gov.au.
