Vow’s challenge
Novel foods such as lab-grown meat are non-traditional foods. They’re an innovative way to solve global food challenges and provide sustainable alternatives to traditional agriculture.
The challenge is that novel foods lack a long track record of human use. Plus, getting them to market means navigating complex regulations and safety standards.
Food regulators must assess them to make sure they’re safe to eat before adding them to the food supply. Vow Foods had to meet the strict requirements set by global regulators, including:
- Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ)
- the Singapore Food Agency (SFA)
- US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
They also had to complete complex safety assessments and regulatory processes to adhere to relevant food standards codes. This included detailed reports providing scientific proof supporting the safety, quality and consistency of their products.
