Antimony, a critical metalloid in its raw form.

Critical minerals, metals and rare earths are in demand for future technologies. While Australia mines many of these resources, most refining is offshore.

The recipient of round 26 CRC Program funding is the Critical Metals for Critical Industries (CMCI) CRC. Their work aligns with the National Science and Research Priorities.

The CMCI CRC will develop refining for critical metals, creating new global opportunities. It will:

  • involve 62 project partners
  • grow local skills
  • establish a globally competitive industry.

Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) grants give funding for medium to long-term, industry-led research collaborations. Since 1990 the program has supported 242 CRCs to research and develop new solutions for industry. Some of these projects were in manufacturing, agriculture, energy, health, cyber security and AI.
