Diversity and inclusion

Our department makes it easy for you to have a voice on issues that really matter to Australia. We need people with diverse skills, expertise, perspectives and lived experience to provide depth and reflect the communities in which we operate.

Joining our diversity networks

When you join our department, you can join our diversity networks. These networks are a forum where people can connect and support each other. Employees lead our networks while our senior executives champion and guide them.

Our networks:

  • Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) Network
  • Disability and Wellness Network (DaWN)
  • Gender Equity Network (GEN)
  • Indigenous Employee Network (IEN)
  • Pride Network (for LGBTIQA+ employees).

Creating an inclusive and empowered workforce

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is demonstrated through the following strategies.

  • Our Inclusion Strategy shows how we are creating a workplace culture where we are all valued and respected for our contribution.
  • Our People Strategy outlines how we are building a high performance organisation by investing in our people, culture, values and processes.
  • Our Safety Health and Wellbeing Strategy provides measurable targets to achieve and maintain a safe working environment for all staff.

Welcoming people with disability

We aim to make our workplace the best possible place to work for everyone. We welcome people living with a disability to add their voice and skills.

Welcoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Our Reconciliation Action Plan outlines our commitment to employing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are committed to creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses to work with government through the Indigenous Procurement Policy.

Other initiatives include:
