New $3.5 billion investment in climate solutions

The Climate Solutions Package was announced under the Department of the Environment and Energy (DEE). The climate change and energy function transferred to our department as a result of Administrative Arrangements Order made on 5 December 2019 with effect from 1 February 2020.

The Australian Government has announced the $3.5 billion Climate Solutions Package. The investment builds on existing climate change mitigation policies to deliver on Australia’s 2030 Paris Agreement commitments.

The package includes: 

  • the Climate Solutions Fund, a $2 billion investment to continue investment in low cost abatement 
  • support for a range of new energy efficiency measures for homes, businesses and community organisations 
  • funding to develop a national strategy for electric vehicles that will examine public and private charging infrastructure, integration with the electricity system, industry opportunities and barriers to uptake
  • further investment and support pumped hydro projects like Snowy 2.0 and Marinus Link.
