Do you want to learn more about SKA, the world’s largest and most capable radio telescopes?

The department’s Australian SKA Office is organising an online and in-person presentation at the World Expo in Dubai on Thursday 21 October. The event will be hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Australia Pavilion.

The event will feature many speakers involved in the Australian SKA project including:

  • Janean Richards, Head of Science and Commercialisation Division in our department, outlining Australia’s contribution to the SKA
  • Professor Phil Diamond, Director-General, SKA Observatory, speaking about the SKA project history and role of the SKA Observatory
  • Professor Cathryn Trott, Lead Epoch of Reionisation Project, Curtin University/International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, explaining SKA science objectives
  • Dr Karen Lee-Waddell, Director, Australian SKA Regional Centre, sharing SKA data challenges.
  • Updates from China, India, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, Switzerland and the UK

Located on Wajarri Yamaji country, Australia’s SKA radio telescope will be one of 2 telescopes that are the largest of their kind on Earth. They will allow astronomers to explore the sky in unprecedented detail and perform cutting-edge scientific work.

  • Thursday 21 October, 11pm (AEDT).
  • Livestreamed with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions at a live Q&A at the end of the event.
  • A recording of the presentation will be available to view the next day.
