Northern Australia front and centre at strategic partnership

News
The Northern Australia Strategic Partnership (NASP) met this week in Cairns to discuss the northern agenda. The NASP met as part of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting.
The NASP is a partnership made up of the Prime Minister, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia and first state ministers. The partnership provides national leadership on the strategic direction for the northern agenda.
The meeting was an opportunity to update ministers on implementation of the Our North Our Future, White Paper. Since we released the 2015 white paper, 41 of the 51 commitments have been actioned, contributing over $6 billion to the economy.
Other topics of discussion were the Northern Australia Indigenous Development Accord and broader economic development work by the Indigenous Reference Group. This work was reaffirmed as essential to northern Australia reaching its full economic potential.
The NASP also considered the best way to progress recommendations from the Northern Australia Insurance Inquiry following the second ACCC interim report.
