Industrial and commercial emissions reduction method: have your say
The Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee is seeking feedback on a proposed new industrial and commercial emissions reduction method (ICER) for the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF).
The ERF incentivises Australian businesses to cut the amount of greenhouse gases they create and undertake activities that store carbon.
This method credits reduced emissions from:
- boiler upgrades and fuel switching
- changing the way energy-using equipment is operated
- lighting, heating, ventilating and air conditioning upgrades and installing solar photovoltaics.
The proposed new method implements changes recommended in the committee’s 2018 review of the industrial electricity and fuel efficiency (IEFE) method and recent crediting period extension review.
The new ICER method will replace the IEFE method. Existing IEFE projects will continue to earn carbon credits until closure.
The changes will encourage additional abatement and ensure the method credits genuine emissions reductions.
Submissions are welcome until 17 August 2021.
