Australia is internationally recognised for its outstanding achievements in science and research-based innovation. To ensure we honour excellence in science research, commercialisation and teaching, we award a series of prizes.

There are 7 prizes:

The 2 school prize categories include science, mathematics and technologies teaching.

Each prize is awarded with prize money, a medallion with a lapel pin and an award certificate.

Eligibility

For a science prize a nominee must:

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
  • be nominated by someone else
  • be nominated in no more than one prize category in any given year
  • meet all eligibility criteria for the prize

For a science teaching prize a nominee must:

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
  • have undertaken their teaching achievement for which they are nominated, in Australia
  • be nominated by someone else
  • be full time or part time at a primary or secondary school and be teaching in the classroom at the time they are nominated
  • for a secondary school teacher, science, mathematics and technology teaching must be a substantial part (at least 0.5 full time equivalent) of their workload
  • meet all eligibility criteria for the prize
