Site Characterisation – Technical Report Wallerberdina

The National Radioactive Waste Management Facility is looking at potential sites to dispose of Australia’s low level radioactive waste. These sites have been identified through a voluntary nomination process. One of the sites shortlisted is Wallerberdina near Hawker in South Australia. 

The following report details the surface and subsurface environments within and surrounding 100 hectares of the site. 

The site characteristics or criteria were developed according to guidelines from Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). These guidelines relate to the selection and evaluation of sites being considered for the new radioactive waste management facility.
