National Survey and Literature Review of Clinical Trials

In addition to funding the Consumer Guide to Clinical Trials factsheet and the Australian Clinical Trials website, the department has also been involved in delivering the following two activities:

  • Review of the Literature on Participation in Clinical Trials
  • National Survey on Attitudes towards Clinical Trials

Review of the Literature on Participation in Clinical Trials

In March 2012, Biotext was engaged by the department to review primary and secondary research literature to identify the most effective messages for influencing public and health care professional behaviour regarding participation in clinical trials.

National Survey on Attitudes towards Clinical Trials

In October 2012, Edentify was engaged by the department to undertake an online survey of 1,000 Australians on their level of awareness and understanding of clinical trials, preferred methods for obtaining information,  and motivations for participation in clinical trials.

Results

This survey demonstrates Australian attitudes towards clinical trials and motivations for participation in clinical trials.

Demographics

The survey sampled 1,000 Australians and was conducted using a qualitative online questionnaire that took between 11 and 15 minutes to complete.
