The National Survey of Research Commercialisation (NSRC) is a survey of research commercialisation inputs, activity and output indicators for Australian publicly funded research organisations (Universities, Publicly Funded Research Agencies and a range of Medical Research Institutes).  It typically surveys approximately 70 institutions and consists of 30 questions.

The key metrics addressed through the survey are:

  • dedicated research commercialisation staff and associated costs;
  • levels of patenting activity (filing and grants);
  • volume and value of licensing, optioning and/or the assignment of intellectual property;
  • volume and value of contract research and consultancy activity; and
  • research commercialisation training inputs and outputs (starting with the third iteration).

There have been three previous iterations of the survey conducted (in the years 2001, 2003, and 2005), surveying the years from 2000 to 2004 (inclusive).  The report of the fourth iteration of the survey - covering the years 2005-2007 - is now also available (released July 2009). The related reports for each of these surveys are available below, along with case studies for the second and third iterations of the survey.

5th Iteration (2008-2009)

The fifth iteration of the NSRC is to be conducted from 16 August through to 20 September 2010, with Institutional Contact Officers to be notified and provided with a link to the survey on 16 August 2010.

Results will be made available on this page as they become available and are processed.
