On 4 December 2009, the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research announced whole-of-government agreement and adoption of a Framework of Principles for Innovation Initiatives. The press release is available here. More information can be found in the attached brochure on the Framework.

The Framework has been adopted by the Australian, State and Territory Governments to guide policy development for innovation initiatives.  It has been designed to enhance consistency and improve the overall accessibility and efficiency of government innovation initiatives across Australia.

The Framework, endorsed in the Australian Government in the Government’s innovation agenda Powering Ideas, is a vivid demonstration of governments working together to improve the consistency, accessibility and efficiency of innovation programs across Australia.

The Framework was initiated through the 2008 Review of the National Innovation System, when an Intergovernmental Working Group of representatives across governments assessed and reviewed current government support for innovative activities.

The Working Group proposed a Framework to ensure the current and future suite of programs meet industry needs, and to reduce overlap and duplication of initiatives.

The Australian Government’s innovation agenda Powering Ideas, charged the Commonwealth, State and Territory Advisory Council on Innovation (CSTACI) with working to get the Framework adopted and implemented Australia-wide.

More information on the Framework can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions document.
