Australia has also supported some key industry events and conferences that are contributing to the responsible development of nanotechnology here and around the globe. Events supported by the Australian Office of Nanotechnology (AON) include:
- Nanotech Japan 2008 and 2009
For the last two years, the AON has provided the Australian Nano Business Forum (ANBF) with financial support to lead an Australian delegation to the Nano Tech Exhibition and Conference in Tokyo, Japan.
- ICONN 08 – the International Conference of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2008
The ICONN conference was held in Melbourne from 22-29 February 2008, with the AON being a major sponsor.
- ICEM 2008 - The International Conference on Electronic Materials, 2008
The ICEM conference was held in Sydney from 28 July to 1 August 2008. The AON contributed as a sponsor.
The AON has also supported some activities of industry groups to address important issues around the development of nanotechnology:
- Australian Nano Business Forum (ANBF) – Development of responsible nano codes
The Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA), UK, invited the ANBF and NanoVic to assist them in the development of a Responsible NanoCode – a voluntary principles-based Code appropriate for adoption by organisations of all sizes involved in the research, development, manufacturing and retailing of products using nanotechnologies. The AON supported the ANBF in October 2007 to undertake this activity.
- Materials Australia Roadshows in South Australia
The AON provided funding to Materials Australia to conduct a series of 'Nano awareness roadshows'. The roadshows were conducted in regional South Australia and were used to promote nanotechnology and were used as a method to explore regional businesses interest in the use of nanotechnology.
- Australian Nanotechnology Alliance Roadshow
The AON provided financial support for the Queensland section of the national nanotechnology roadshow, conducted by the Australian Nanotechnology Alliance.
